New experiences and old recipes

Jesse and I just got back from our anniversary trip. Yes, we went to Disneyland. But it was so different then all the other times we have been. How you ask? Well we both have lost a lot of weight this year. I have gone down 4 sizes!!!!! Last year on our anniversary trip to Disneyland we were walking to a ride and Jesse said, “let’s set a weight loss goal before we come back”. I said “ok, what about 80 lbs being my goal”. So we decided that we wouldn’t come back until I lost 80 lbs. Well I haven’t lost 80 lbs. but being that I have lost 67 was close enough. So, I was excited to see how different Disneyland would be 67 lbs. lighter. Well it was different! Here are some before and after pictures of us.

Now we stayed at Jesse’s Grandma’s house and drove to Disneyland each day to save a few bucks. Well ever since I met Grandma Lucy and tried her apple pie, I have always wanted the recipe. On our honeymoon we stayed one night at her house and she made us two pies! They were delicious. Before we left she gave me her glass pie plate. I was so happy that she would pass that down to me! But I really wanted the pie recipe too!!!!! Well, she didn’t give it to me. I was a little sad, but glad to have her pie plate passed down to me.

Well this year she made us pie early and baked it for us when we got to her house. So sweet! But she talked a lot about not being up to cooking anymore. My ears perked up and I thought, “Well, maybe she is ready to hand down her apple pie recipe”. It was wishful thinking. We stayed four nights. On Thursday, the day we were leaving, we were watching the cooking channel and she kept asking me questions about baking and cooking. Then I heard the most glorious words, the words I was waiting to hear for 7 year, “I’ll give you my pie recipe”. I was elated!!! I tried not to freak out on her!

On the way home I studied the recipe to see what I would need to purchase the minute I got home. I decided to make her apple pie for Thanksgiving. I knew I would need to practice before, so I bought everything I needed yesterday and made my very first Jazz Apple Pie, By Lucille DeShane. Here are some pictures.

When invited Philip, Brynn and Silas, and James over to help us eat it! It was delicious!
